As the capital turns from day to night, the team catch the sights and sounds of the West End from their bikes, experiencing the unpredictable ways of the road while building comradery as a team. As a designer, I’m always fascinated by brands that reinvent and extend their product lines. Brooks England, the famous maker of cycling seats and leather goods, brought in designer Ben Wilson and his students from The Royal College of Art and gave them a design brief: “What would Mr. Brooks do next if he was alive today?”

LA-based artist Geoff McFetridge details his creative process for building a custom bike dubbed the Sea Rambler. A graphic designer, illustrator and animator by trade, McFetridge admits he knew very little about the technical aspects of putting together the bike. However, he views each and every project as a process by which to learn new skill sets. Follow him through the conceptualization, building and triumphant finish.

Last July, the saddle specialists at Brooks England teased us with a preview of their collaboration with Levi’s Commuter. The fruits of their labor finally released last week in the form of a saddle made with recycled denim, a limited-edition version ofBrooks’ classic Cambium C17.

Part of a social project that reaches out to urban commuters, the numbered piece is manufactured from donated denim collected from Levi’s Commuter Workspaces in Brooklyn, Los Angeles and London. It’s constructed by the same vulcanization techniques used to produce the comfortable, durable and waterproof Cambium C17 original.

The Limited Edition Cambium C17 Denim Saddle is currently available exclusively at the B1866 flagship store in London as well as online for $274. “Denim never dies,” indeed.

WINGEDSTORE.COM traveled to the home of the legendary illustrator and friend of Cinelli Mike Giant in Boulder, CO. We spoke with Mike about the RAM carbon fiber handlebar collaboration, as well as his relationship with Cinelli and its President Antonio Colombo.

In the late 2000s, with increasing excitement over the fixed-gear movement, and in particular over Cinelli’s collaborations and friendship’s with MASH and RVCA, Cinelli President Antonio Colombo found himself traveling to California more and more frequently and socializing in the new scene created around these bicycles. On one of these trips in 2008 he met Mike Giant, already a world-renowned tattoo artist working more and more in illustration. As well as being an avid everyday rider, Mike had an extremely strong interest in fixed gear bikes, their subversive politics, and the kids riding them.

In Antonio Colombo he found not only and eager and willing patron for his art (Giant would have a show at Colombo’s Milanese gallery in February 2010), but also a vehicle for bringing his drawings into explicit contact with the fixed-gear movement, and the world of cycling, on a global level. The numerous Mike Giant x Cinelli projects that would follow are among the most exciting Cinelli product collaborations to date.

The beeline from Berlin to Prague is only 280km. So we thought we can easily make it in three days...
