PAUL SMITH ON THE MAKING OF THE 531 MERCIAN FIXED GEAR BIKE

Continuing our coverage of the Paul Smith 531 cycling collection, we hear from Mr Smith himself as he visits Grant Mosely, frame builder and owner of British bike maker Mercian. Continuing a long-standing relationship between the two (Paul Smith became a designer following a serious crash on a Mercian, the bike passed the test),  you can now purchase a model made to the designer’s exact requirements, “the perfect non-bike, fixed gear, stripped down and all black.” Based in Derby, Mercian have been building custom steel-framed bikes by hand since 1946, see the process and hear more via Mr Porter.
